World War Z and Cloud Atlas

Two adaptations that have been in the works for a while finally look as though they are actually going ahead.

World War Z, adapted from Max Brooks’ critically acclaimed novel finally looks to be gearing up to start shooting this summer since director of photography Robert Richardson is actually prepping the film at Elstree Studios. With Richardson on board (Platoon, A Few Good Men, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, Shutter Island etc) it all begins to sound very promising.

Director is Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace). Brad Pitt is to star as the United Nations Postwar Commision agent that interviews those who survive the battle against the undead.

The adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas also seems to be moving along now, with Tom Hanks officially signed on to star. Shooting will begin in September. Here’s the official logline:

An epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.
