Snow White and the Huntsman

Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil Queen, has beaten Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror, starring Lily Collins as Snow White and Julia Roberts as the Queen, to the punch and released the first trailer.  Snow White seems to be part of a current trend to goth up fairy tales, to present, as so many are saying, a ‘darker take’ on classic fairy tales (you can always tell which critics are taking their cue from Disney and really know nothing about fairy tales, can’t you?)

And what about that poster? As Sharon Deans pointed out to me,  it rather looks like Snow White is being reformulated as Joan of Arc. And now we know why she was called Snow White, of course.

The film opens in the UK on 1 June 2012.

Here’s the trailer for those of you who haven’t seen it yet – and it’s pretty good! It was probably a good idea to downplay Stewart in the trailer.  I’ll be cheering for the Evil Queen.
