Ebert on Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre

I’ve been avoiding mention of Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre simply because over here we have to wait until September for the release. The word from US reviewers has been mixed, but leaning more towards the negative. So I was pleased to see Roger Ebert actually liked it, and thought his review was worth mentioning. ‘Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre‘, he starts, ‘is among the greatest of Gothic novels, a page-turner of such startling power it leaves its pale, latter-day imitators like Twilight flopping for air like a stranded fish.’ To read the rest of the review see here.
