Call for papers: Introducing the gothic in Denmark

Posted by Dale Townshend on June 17, 2008 in News tagged with

Frida Hansen, editor of Standart, a Danish literary magazine, is looking for international contributors for a theme section on Gothic fiction in a 2009-issue of Standart. Contributions will be translated into Danish.

They are looking for short (1200-1800-word) essays that describe the Gothic –  beyond the historical genre. Contributions could include interpretations of narratives, novels or films, presentations of authors or general overviews. What defines Gothic horror? How can we describe the Gothic today? Should the Gothic be considered an aesthetics or a mode of writing?

If you are interested in contributing, please contact Frida Hansen at with suggestions and ideas before September 1 2008. The deadline for completed contributions is January 2009.
